History of Ashford Castle:
Ashford Castle has a long, long history of ownership and receivership. The castle has been in and out of private ownership and receivership for its entire life span. Enduring huge restorations and additions, the castle has never looked as grand as it does today.
Leading Hotels of the World now operates the castle that was once owned by the Guinness family. The estate has a total of to 26,000 acres. The Castle initially was passed to the Irish Government​ from the Guinness Family until becoming owned by over the years by many different investors. In 2007 property investor Gerry Barrett invested for €50 million into redoing the castle. The hotel currently has 83 bedrooms, six of which are suites.
