Are you looking to clean up your home from chemicals but don’t know where to start? That was me in August. I had just come back from my first fast and, for the first time in years I was starting to feel excellent. I knew I had to hold onto that feeling and start making some changes. I didn’t want to go back to the old way of feeling, where I was tired and ill all the time.
Chemicals have invaded every aspect of our day to day lives. You may or may not know how many chemicals you use or eat in a day? The idea of going ‘holistic’ seemed overwhelming. And there were too many things I loved that I wasn’t willing to part with, like my makeup. I had decided before I replaced anything I was going to keep a daily journal to start counting chemicals, just the same as if you were tracking food. Every time I would eat something, or use a product I would count the chemicals on the labels and tally up my day. Some days were into the hundreds! Once I had my list, I it was evident where to cut back and what to cut out. I evaluated what brought my joy and crossed it off the list first; it got to stay. I was left with a bunch of things that didn’t bring me any joy, and I was more than willing to replace. I mean who is going to miss their laundry soap or tooth paste? From that day on, I have slowly been replacing one product at a time, with a smarter more informed purchase. When possible, attempting to make my own products. A few products I have found very easy to make have been, Laundry Soap, Counter Spray, and Room Sprays. What chemical products have you been able to replace with a homemade version?
HOW TO MAKE LAUNDRY SOAP
What do you need to make your own Laundry Soap?
Baking Soda
On Guard or Thieves Essential Oils
Castile Soap
Hot Water
Coarse Salt
Glass Containers
Making your own laundry soap is very inexpensive and affordable. You will only be using 20 drops of your Essential Oils, and 1 cup of Castile Soap per batch. Each batch of the recipe below will make you 7 liters of Laundry Soap.
Tips:
I recommend Dr. Bronner’s Castil Soap in Baby Unscented, this way your smell will come from your Essential Oils.
Use glass instead of plastic to store your Laundry Soap – Laundry rooms are very hot, and plastics will leach out into your products and through use into your body.
Only use Organic Essential Oils with no fillers or added chemicals. If the bottles say for external use only, there is a filler in there. Avoid brands that do not allow you to ingest the oils. If you can’t put it in your body, you don’t want to put it on your body.
Home Made Natural Laundry Soap Recipe
1 Cup Castile Soap
1 cup Baking Soda
1/3 Cup Coarse Salt
7 Liters of Hot Water
20 Drops of Essential Oils
Mix all of the ingredients together in a large pot. Stir really well. Once finished, pour your soap into glass containers that are a good size for storing.
Shake before each use

Chalk labels are the easiest, in case you use the bottle for something different in the future. You can simply clean the label and rewrite anything on there.
